Lisbon already has a supermarket of the future: without boxes and by app

New technologies and electronic commerce begin to reach our day to day. One of the most significant advances will be the existence of smart food chains, where money does not exist and everything is bought through an app. In Lisbon they already have the first smart supermarket where there are no cashiers, no employees, only products and boxes to pay through an app. It is the first store of this type in all of Europe, which has been launched by the Continente supermarket chain. The Sonae MC company has been in charge of carrying out the project with an investment of more than one million euros. What will it be like in the future? Não sera, já é! 🙌 Do you want to visit #LojaContinenteLabs, but don’t you know how the shopping experience works? 🤯 ▶ ️Vê or video below and visit https://t.co/3hqzhuJjAO so that you do not rest more dúvidas. #Continente pic.twitter.com/sM1BGMEzEI – Continente (@Continente_PT) May 27, 2021 How does it work? It is a type of supermarket designed for people more familiar with technology. It was inaugurated last Wednesday in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon and, although the store does not have physical payments, the company reported that it would have staff to help the elderly to make their purchases. «In this store no one pulls the cart and puts it in the bags. I go into the store, put the items in the cart that I take home and go out », explained during the presentation Federico Santos, director of Innovation and Digital Transformation at Sonae MC. This new supermarket concept does not vary much from the classics. Its aisles are practically the same, with an organization similar to that of traditional supermarkets. The difference is that, when the customer enters, they must scan a QR code at the entrance lathe, which will be used to make their purchase. 230 cameras and more than 4000 sensors are in charge of verifying whether or not items are removed from the shelves. When we are removing a product, the QR code associated with the store’s app already does the accounts itself, and then does the process of purchase with the card that we have configured to pay. Unlike Amazon Go, the first technology stores in the world, Sonae MC stores are based on an “auto-scan” and not a scan to pay with mobile, as Santos pointed out.
