Kassel – In order for corona vaccinations* administered to be documented and proven, each vaccinated person also receives a digital certificate in addition to the stamp in the yellow vaccination card. Basically, vaccinations and certificates should be in balance – but that’s not the case.
According to a report in the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung (NOZ), there are now significantly more vaccination certificates in Germany than there are injections. The Federal Ministry of Health informed the newspaper about this. But how can that be? The opposition in the Bundestag is also demanding clarification from the federal government.
Gap between vaccination certificates and corona vaccinations: Ministry gives possible reasons
Since the start of the corona vaccination campaign in December 2020, 204.7 million digital certificates have been issued in Germany by last Friday (01/22/2022). However, according to the Federal Ministry of Health, only 162.1 million doses for first, second and third vaccinations were injected by last Monday (January 24, 2022) and thus 42.6 million fewer than vaccination certificates were issued. The Ministry informed the NOZ of this at the request.
However, the Federal Ministry of Health does not see this discrepancy as an indication of fake vaccination cards or vaccinations that have not been reported millions of times. It is possible that “particularly at the beginning of the application, many certificates were automatically created by vaccination centers and sent to the vaccinated persons”, who, however, had already received one in a pharmacy. A spokesman for the ministry told the NOZ. It also happens from time to time that certificates “are issued more than once, for example if a person loses their certificate”.
More certificates issued than corona vaccinations: panel doctors have no explanation
However, the difference between corona vaccinations and vaccination certificates issued has grown enormously in the past few weeks: According to the ministry, the surplus was around 26 million in mid-December compared to currently more than 42 million. However, the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV) has no explanation for this. “On the basis of the contract doctor’s billing data, we assume that underreporting by the digital vaccination rate monitoring (DIM) is not generally given and therefore cannot explain the gap shown,” said a KBV spokesman for the NOZ.
In order to clarify this, more in-depth analyzes of the data are required, which can currently only be carried out by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). However, the RKI has not commented on this publicly or to the NOZ. Criticism of this comes from the opposition: “This calls for further clarification. The federal government urgently needs to ensure clarity,” said the health policy spokeswoman for the left, Kathrin Vogler.
