Mark Ruffalo will be in “Poor Things” by Yorgos Lanthimos

It is true that Mark Ruffalo is known in the cinema internationally for being the green giant of the Avengers, but far from summarizing a career for a role, the actor has shown in his filmography to know how to choose dramatic projects, away from the box office pretensions and the media coverage. Proof of this is his recent Emmy for his “double role” in the HBO series The Undeniable Truth or the biographical drama Dark Waters that premiered in 2019. With this mix of genres, it is not surprising that he combines the filming of the series She- Hulk with suddenly, enter the new project of the Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos.Lanthimos was nominated for best foreign film for Canino, for best original screenplay for Lobster in 2017 and best director for The Favorite in 2019. It is one of those European directors who appear from time to time, with a narrative and aesthetic cut different from all the rest, something that authors such as Michael Haneke or Emir Kusturika were already in their day. His talent is so evident in the film mecca that since 2015 with the dystopian Langosta, renowned actors such as Rachel Weisz or Colin Farrell have opted to appear in their productions. His latest film Poor Things has signed the participation of Mark Ruffalo in addition to repeating with the one who was his protagonist in The Favorite, Emma Stone. Poor Things is based on the book of the same title by Alasdair Gray, described by many as an inviting story to the reflection between the desire of the man and the independence of the woman. History and conceptualization that fit perfectly with the moral dilemmas about relationships and the family that Yorgos Lanthimos establishes in all his works.This allegory replaces Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein with a beautiful woman (played by Stone) who will be brought back to life with a baby brain transplant. The brain of this character named Bella matures as she flees from all those men who want to possess her. Tony McNamara, who already co-wrote the script for The Favorite, will adapt the novel. Production will begin later this year, so the film may possibly be seen throughout 2022. The possible Oscar nomination again will have to wait at least a year more.
