The Puglia region of southern Italy is known for its unique trulli houses, the white cone-shaped structures that dot the landscape. But the masseria , or stone farmhouse, is another type of residential building unique to Puglia, and many have been converted into lodgings, ranging from rustic to luxurious. Since the farmhouse was originally farms, many of those who have been changed to host hosts still often work on farms that produce olive oil, wine, or produce in picturesque landscapes. Masseria Cimino is the luxury guest house of the San Domenico golf course, although it is also open to non-golfers. It’s in an 18th-century farmhouse and fortified tower on a rustic-looking estate surrounded by wildflowers, cacti, olive groves, and orchards. There are 15 rooms, a cozy lounge and restaurant decorated with antique farm implements, a swimming pool, and pleasant outdoor seating areas. The original architectural features and colors of the house were preserved during the restoration.
