The arrival of the Mazda3 ushered in a new era of Kodo design – soul in motion. But what do we mean when we talk about Kodo design? The truth is that the concept refers to the fact of giving life to the body of the vehicle, that is, it is a Japanese aesthetic technique that tries to highlight the beauty of natural phenomena through light patterns. Under this philosophy of the automobile conceived as art, the brand’s designers are striving to broaden this vision and thus enhance the artistic value of the vehicle.
So Mazda focused on perfecting the model’s finishes , handcrafting the manufacturer’s previous designs and exploring new avenues linked to changing values and lifestyles. The simplicity of its forms emphasizes both its beauty and its solidity, while its coupe-like silhouette conveys a feeling of lightness thanks to the adoption of a unique door system, as well as a unique front.
With the clear intention of making known the essence of the Kodo design , Mazda has launched a project in which the film director Javier Balaguer and the choreographer Federico Barrios come together to create a short-film around the Kodo design, since the Brand always uses this philosophy, based on the contained energy of nature, the traditions of Japanese design, minimalism, purity and elegance, in the creation of its cars.
For example, the process of creating the new Mazda CX-30 is also closely tied to the Kodo design. In fact, it begins when some master craftsmen, called Takumi , model blocks of clay using their whole body to seek the emotions that the vehicle should awaken in people, in the same way that happens with a work of art. Next, teachers explore the lines using sketches and three-dimensional models. This process is guided by his obsession with beauty, using the full potential of human hands and body movement to create forms capable of producing sensations in others.
