Naked camping in Germany

If you want to spend time outside the city walls and love to hike, kayak and swim, the Mecklenburg Lake District in eastern Germany might be the right place for you. And while you wonder why it is better naked, the Germans say “Why not?” Nudism is a normal part of German life, especially (though not exclusively) in the East.

Get back to nature with a naked camping trip in Germany.

Back to nature with naked camping

Famous as the land of 1,000 crystal clear lakes and evergreen forests, the Lake District offers many campgrounds, many of them with nude beaches and nude campgrounds.

One of the best sites is the secluded nude camp at Useriner Lake. The site is a popular gathering for FKK ( Frei Korps Kultur / Free body culture) groups, as well as people dabbling in the nudist community. It is secure and secluded, only registered entry and an electronic card slot system are allowed. There are modern facilities and a peaceful environment for the 200 campsites.

It is located in the idyllic and peaceful Müritz National Park, which is home to more than 800 plants, 260 birds and 880 species of butterflies. Explore the UNESCO World Natural Heritage site of the ancient beech forest. There are even tours in English that cover the local flora and fauna, as well as the history of the park. Have you got a bike ? Join guided bike tours through the gardens.

What to Expect at a Naked Camp in Germany

This practice of nudism (or naturism) originated in Germany in the late 19th century. Its purpose is non-erotic and non-sexual; Nudism aims to promote a free and healthy lifestyle close to nature and helps create a relaxing psyche and positive body image. (Find out more about nudism in Germany.)

The family oriented campground is located directly on Useriner Lake, which is well known for its excellent water quality. No motor boats are allowed, which means it’s oil-free and wonderfully clear. In addition to RV and tent spots, it offers a designated area for nude campers. There, you can swim, canoe, sunbathe, and even play sports like volleyball or Fussball (soccer) without clothes.

Not just for nudists

The Useriner campsite is an excellent starting point for exploring the National Park. By boat, many water routes start from here and take you to serene forest lakes and along the Havel River. You can rent boats and canoes and explore the green heart of eastern Germany from the water. No matter your dress preference, it is important to be respectful of this sanctuary for Mother Nature.

There are eight other campsites in the area. All sites are on the water and can be reached by boat.
