The tennis player from Castellón beat Nicolas Basilashvili (6-3 and 6-4) in the final, in a tournament in which he also beat tennis players like Andy Murray, Alejandro Davidovich or Karen Khachanov. This is the tenth title he has won in his career, the first since he chose Daniel Gimeno Traver as coach and a victory that has also allowed him to return to the world top-15.
With his victory in Rio against Diego Schwartzman, Carlos Alcaraz has become the youngest tennis player in more than a decade to become champion in an ATP 500 category tournament. In addition, the Murcian has climbed several places in the ATP ranking until place for the first time among the top 20 in the world.

The Murcian has climbed nine places in the ranking to reach number 20 in the ATP for the first time.
Also in the women’s ranking, Paula Badosa has reached her all-time high by moving up one position despite her defeat in Dubai. The Catalan tennis player, champion in Sydney in January, wears for the first time in her career the condition of number 4 in the WTA.
