According to a report presented at the Congress of the European Society for Human Reproduction (SCHRE) held in early July in Stockholm, Sweden, the sperm of obese men is poorer . Being overweight, according to this study, decreases male fertility, which influences the reproductive capacity of humans.
After analyzing samples from 1,940 men from 12 different European countries, the research concluded that in overweight or obese men, the concentration of sperm in semen was between 10 and 20 percent lower compared to standard parameters.
In addition, in the cases in which the overweight was greater, the mobility of the sperm was reduced. The study, led by Paul Cohen-Bacrie, from the Unilabs group of laboratories, analyzed parameters such as PH, gamete mobility, concentration or morphology to reach this conclusion.
Gingivitis delays conception in women
Another study presented at the same center and carried out in this case by Australian scientists, associates difficulties in getting pregnant in women with gingivitis. The bacteria that cause this periodontal inflammation would affect fertility through a chain effect on the tissue of the reproductive system. This gum disease would reduce the chances of conception by increasing the time it takes to conceive a child by up to two months.
