One Hundred Years of Astor Piazzolla: Two Symphonic Tango Nights at the Teatro Colón

Under the direction of Leonardo Rubín and within the world tour of the Astor Piazzolla Quintet, the public will enjoy a repertoire that covers the most emblematic moments of the artist’s career.

On March 11, 1921, the coastal city of Mar del Plata, Argentina, saw the birth of one of the most important artists of the 20th century: Astor Piazzolla , the composer and bandoneon player who revolutionized tango in the world.

As part of the commemoration of the hundred years of his birth, on June 4 and 5, at 7:30 pm, the Teatro Colón de Bogotá and the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia will present the Astor Piazzolla Quintet , with two live concerts .

“I have an illusion: that my work will be heard in 2020. And in 3000 as well” , a premonitory phrase expressed by maestro Piazzolla and that today is more alive than ever in each of the scenarios where his legacy is remembered, assured Julián Vat, artistic director of the Quintet.

Under the direction of Julián Vat and within the group’s world tour, the public will enjoy a repertoire that covers the most emblematic moments of Piazzolla’s career, including songs such as ‘Biyuya’, ‘La camorra II’, ‘Decarísimo’ and ‘La mufa’ , which are part of the commemorative album ‘Triunfal’.

The Argentine group made up of Pablo Mainetti (bandoneon), Nicolás Guerschberg (piano), Serdar Geldymuradov (violin), Daniel Falasca (double bass) and Armando de La Vega (guitar), will share the stage with the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia in a day in the one that the public will live a Buenos Aires experience just as it was done in Buenos Aires in the mid-twentieth century.

Quintet Astor Piazzolla: the group that preserves the legacy of the tango master

After the death of the mythical Argentine bandoneonist and composer, Laura Escalada Piazzolla created the Astor Piazzolla Foundation, with the aim of continuing his legacy and promoting a new stage in the dissemination of his music. To this end, in 1998 he formed the Astor Piazzolla Quintet , made up of five soloists with outstanding careers, who aesthetically commune with the ideas of maestro Piazzolla and those who have been formed under his influence.

With more than twenty years of experience, they have made numerous tours of the United States, Latin America, Europe and Asia, they have received unanimous praise from the press and important international recognitions such as the Latin Grammy for Best Tango Album (2019).
