Onset of winter in Germany: Snow on the 1st of Advent?

The 1st Advent is approaching and with it probably the first snow. Meteorological forecasts see a snow front coming from the south on Germany from Friday.

Frankfurt / Bonn – The onset of winter in Germany is imminent. As early as the 1st Advent this could provide the first snow even in lower elevations. The prognosis is triggered by a cold front that experts see migrating to Germany for the coming first weekend of Advent.

The basis for this development is a high that built up over the north-east Atlantic over the weekend, accompanied by two lows over Scandinavia and the Iberian Peninsula, which, together, could bring movement to the beginning of winter in Central Europe. Björn Goldhausen, meteorologist at the Wetteronline.de platform, explains this.

The first snowfalls from Friday onwards announce “a lot of snow” for the 1st Advent

The resulting weather conditions initially ensure milder temperatures – especially during the day – but would then hit another low coming from Iceland across the continent. From Friday this development could then cause the first snowfalls, which are not limited to higher altitudes.

For The Weather Channel, the meteorologist Jan Schenk also predicts “a lot of snow” for large parts of Germany. This already started on Friday night in the south of the country and then gradually moved further north. Several weather models have already agreed on this.

Forecasts still unclear: Snow on the 1st of Advent may only be in the south?

Goldhausen from Wetteronline.de also confirms that another low from Saturday could increase the chances of snow in Germany. However, the course of the low pressure area from Iceland is not yet completely clear, he says and relativizes the hopes for a white First Advent, which could simply pass Germany by.

Goldhausen explains this with an overview of possible temperature developments for Frankfurt. Until the beginning of December, some meteorological models predict extremely mild temperatures of over ten degrees, others expect values below 0. (ska)

Our children's graduations mark the end of a stage and remind us how fast...

They say that in raising children the days are long and the years are short, and of course they are right. But perhaps it is especially in these days of school graduations and changes of stage, when we realize it the most.
