The Opel Corsa-e was fully caught by the first wave of covid-19. What’s more, I remember coming back from our first contact with the urban model on the streets of Berlin (Germany) when home confinement was decreed. That anecdote makes you remember, with special affection, the route behind the wheel of the first 100% electric Opel model. A car that, as if that were not enough, is produced at the Zaragoza plant, one of the factories that the Stellantis conglomerate (PSA and FCA) will maintain after its merger. Almost a year has passed since that fateful March 2020 and the social situation has changed little. However, Opel has wanted to meet us to show us the plans it has for the Corsa-e , a vehicle that will adapt to the mobility of the present and that looks towards a simple and clean future.
The use of the automobile has changed. There are fewer passionate users and car ownership has taken a back seat, be it due to purchasing power, concern for the environment or the mobility style of the population. The Opel Corsa has endured for the four decades it has been on the market, being a faithful companion to young drivers eager for adventure and independence. That remains the plan of the German firm for its subcompact, which has been equipped with electric propulsion with a 100 kW (136 hp) engine and up to 337 kilometers of autonomy (WLTP) . A transition that has its sights set on a fully electrified range by 2024 , either with zero-emission models or combinations of hybridization.
Pollution is one of the challenges in today’s automotive industry, in addition to connectivity and autonomous driving. In all these areas, Opel works, which is now part of Stellantis and will benefit from the exchange of knowledge between the FCA group (Fiat, Chrysler and Alfa Romeo) and the French giant PSA (Peugeot, Citroën, DS and Opel) .
