Opel’s first plug-in hybrid is already in dealerships in Spain. This technology, which offers a perfect balance between electrification and traditional fuels, improves the performance of this SUV as well as its versatility and functionality for the most urban users. The new Opel Grandland X 4x 4 Plug-in Hybrid will become the flagship of PSA’s German SUVs, with a starting price of 42,500 euros including the MOVES II plan . Its propulsion system combines a 1.6 turbo petrol engine and two electric ones that jointly yield 300 HP of power, distributed between its two axles thanks to all-wheel drive. The Grandland X PHEV is part of Opel’s strategy to comply with European regulations and offer electrified models across its range by 2024 .
Being part of the Groupe PSA conglomerate has its advantages and, thanks to its acquisition, Opel can benefit from the systems launched by Peugeot. For example, this SUV mounts the same combination that we already see in the Peugeot 3008 plug-in hybrid . As is the case with the Corsa-e, the firm has tried to maintain a familiar and friendly image in the Hybrid4 variant of the Grandland X. This model can only be purchased in the top-of-the-range finish, called Ultimate . For that reason, it has differentiating details such as the two-tone roof and hood, 19-inch wheels and chrome roof bars. If it weren’t for this aesthetic finish, the only way to identify these versions is their charging port located on the left rear wheel.
For now, those interested in the Granland X plug-in hybrid will have to settle for this combination. There will also be a version with a single engine on the rear axle, front-wheel drive and 224 hp, which will be sold from 33,800 euros including the MOVES II Plan. There will even be a variant of access with 130 CV and a more adjusted price, suitable for the pocket of all Spaniards. The price of the PHEV models can be a big drawback but we must take into account their tight consumption, homologated in the WLTP cycle between 1.3-1.4 l / 100 km and 29-32 g / km of CO2 .
