Evolution has these things, it involves the loss of habits that many would prefer not to put aside. Every motor enthusiast lives an internal struggle, the one that takes place between their passions and the coherence necessary for day-to-day life. The arrival of the SUV unseated, at a stroke, the minivans, which until then was a segment that gave a certain cachet for its equipment, habitability and superior price. The sedans resisted the blow but, little by little, they are disappearing from the collective imagination of the buyer. Luckily, firms like Opel resist and come to the load with interesting updates such as the new Opel Insignia . The latest generation, presented in 2017, required some tweaks in the mechanical and technological section. On the contrary, its elegant and sober design has managed to survive the test of time without looking dated.
The novelties presented this October are included in the five-door bodywork and the family, called Grand Sport and Sports Tourer by the firm. Its rivals in the market are models such as the Volkswagen Passat, the Ford Mondeo or the Skoda Superb, which have also recently been renewed. As in the previous one, the Insignia will have a more powerful variant. It will do so under the acronym GSi, known by the most petrolheads for its success in the 90’s with models such as the Astra GSi or the Kadett GSi . It is not yet available in the Spanish market but it will come with all-wheel drive, the rest will always be front.
One of the most significant novelties of the Insignia 2020 is its range of engines. These blocks have been readjusted to improve consumption and the level of emissions, both in the diesel and gasoline options. In the first case, it is a 122 hp 1.5D or 174 hp 2.0D engine, both combinable with the 6-speed manual gearbox or eight-speed automatic. There are three gasoline options, all of them from the 2.0 Turbo block but with powers of 170, 200 and 230 hp (GSi). The two most powerful will go with the 9-speed automatic.
