Who do you want to be? A man overloaded with two handbags, a suit bag, and a suitcase big enough to hold a small piano or the easy-going type with a single duffel bag who knows how to dress well for a visit. Greece. The packing tips will help the man traveling to Greece to choose the right clothes and not much else.
Choosing the travel bag
Choose a suitable soft-sided bag to carry. On crowded flights, a carry-on with removable wheels may be rejected as carry-on luggage, regardless of whether it meets the size requirements, forcing you to pick it up from the carousel.
A soft bag will almost always pass. Remember, European regional airlines generally allow only one carry-on and dimensions vary from airline to airline.
How men dress in Greece
Men dress comfortably but not too casually. In hot weather, you can feel comfortable in loafers or nice sandals. For hot weather activities, shorts are fine. Leave the Hawaiian footprints at home. For the evening, a collared shirt and nice pants or jeans are appropriate. A light jacket is ideal, especially in the colder seasons. As for style, consider “smart casual” European clothing for a place like Athens.
A pair of thick, light-colored pants like jeans will serve a number of purposes. But preferably not light blue or medium blue jeans, as it still has the ‘hippie’ association of the 60s which may not be positive in all contexts. Add a pair of dark jeans as well.
Packing light
There is an art in packing light. Start by deciding what you will wear to travel. Deduct those items from the list of things you will pack.
You will need to:
- 2 pairs of long pants – These can be light colored jeans or dress pants and dark jeans.
- 1 light sweater or hoodie (or buy one in Greece).
- 1-2 pairs of shorts
- 1 long sleeve shirt
- 2 short sleeve shirts
- 1 pair of swimsuit
- 3-5 pairs of underwear
- 3-5 pairs of socks
- 1 pair of good walking shoes, already broken.
- 1 pair of sandals, with rubber bottom, with strap, type “for swimming” are the best to avoid sea anemones.
- 1 windbreaker or other light and waterproof jacket
- 1 hat, or buy in Greece as a souvenir, along with any t-shirts you may need.
- Toiletries the size of the sample (shampoo is heavy) according to the 3-1-1 TSA rule; necessary drugs in original bottles; notebook with pocket for receipts, brochures, etc. camera (or just use your cell phone), additional means for digital cameras.
- Telephone, charging cable and extra battery.
Packing tips
Wear your bulkier shoes and jacket as part of your travel outfit. What? Are your bulky shoes not comfortable enough for airport walks? This tells you that the pair shouldn’t go at all.
Avoid metal spray cans that contain toiletries; This can sometimes trigger a secondary search for your checked bags, increasing the chance of your flight being missed even if you check in too late. This is especially likely if they are grouped in the suitcase.
Tempted to fill any extra rooms? Don’t. Leave room for memories on the return trip.
