Police alert about a new scam via SMS

Technology advances more and more. This is used by hackers and cybercriminals to create new scams that circulate on the net and on our mobile phones. Every week, the members of the National Police, through their communications and their official profiles on social networks, report any new scam that circulates through the Internet or SMS, the last one that the police has detected has been one related to the Direct Line company. It is a new form of scams that agents call smishing and that tries to obtain the user’s data to obtain data such as bank accounts, or security keys and thus have economic returns. In this new scam detected by the National Police, cybercriminals send an SMS to the mobile phone and in the message inform us about the Línea Directa company and some of its advantages. Obviously a link appears where the user clicks and download a supposed documentation. This documentation is the key for hackers to obtain the information they want. Once we click on that link, victims will have to download an alternative program to read said documentation, so a Trojan will be downloaded that will take over our personal data, so valuable to cybercriminals. If you receive an SMS 📩 in which they pose as @LineaDirecta_es 👉 Do not click on the link, or send any documentation ⤵⤵⤵⤵⤵⤵ # NoPiques # smishing pic.twitter.com/XkdCEbyEGv – National Police (@policia) May 27, 2021SmishingThe police already count this type of scam as one of the most recurrent for virtual criminals. It is a scam that tries to make money through obtaining personal data or through calls to special rate numbers that then make the phone bill very high. For months there have been scams with this smishing procedure. Users receive an SMS on behalf of a well-known company, without them having requested anything, and they are invited to download documentation through a link. This link leads us to download a malicious application, or leads us to call a special telephone number that will have a special rate. The National Police warns that, if you receive a message of this type, it is best not to fall into them if we have never requested information about the company through which the criminals are posing.
