Essen – A 25-year-old sprayed irritant gas in a cinema in Essen, injuring himself and 16 other people.
The police are investigating the 25-year-old and five young people. The 25-year-old apparently got into an argument with the young people in a cinema on Saturday evening, the police said on Sunday. He used the gas.
According to witnesses, an initially verbal argument between the 25-year-old and the young people is said to have escalated. The five youths physically attacked the man. The 25-year-old then sprayed the irritant gas.
The 25-year-old also injured himself while spraying, the police said. He was taken to hospital with three other moviegoers. An ambulance service treated the other injured on site. dpa
