Quartararo achieves pole at Mugello and Márquez will start eleventh

Fabio Quartararo took pole position in the MotoGP Italian Grand Prix. The French rider was the fastest and will start from the first position this Sunday at Mugello after signing a great time (1: 45.187 minutes), a record for the circuit. Aleix Espargaró touched the front row but was finally snatched by Bagnaia (second) and Zarco (third). Márquez will start eleventh, just ahead of his teammate Pol Espargaró (twelfth). Marquez and Aleix Espargaró qualified for Q2, coming from Q1. Maverick Viñales was narrowly left out. The one from Figueres got mad at Márquez for getting at his wheel. That has been the strategy of the eight-time world champion since he returned. Thus he managed to place first with Maverick second. They did not pick up the flag for a second and were able to do one more lap, however, Marc, after seeing that Aleix Espargaró beat Viñales’ time but not his and that the rest had finished, decided to go to the pits to save strength since he had the go to Q2 insured. Mack continued to try to get into Q2 but opened in the last corner on the fastest lap and was left out of Q2. He will start thirteenth. In Q2 he chose South African Brad Binder as the hare. The KTM player placed third after passing the finish line, but Márquez had lost time in a set and that caused him to pass in tenth position. Meanwhile there was a plane called Quartararo flying down the Mugello runway to beat its own time and smash the record held by Márquez himself. The Frenchman stopped the clock 1: 45.187 minutes, putting four tenths to Aleix – then second – and half a second to Oliveira – then third -. However, the Ducati were missing to close the classification.Bagnaia, Miller and Zarco tried to beat the Yamaha rider’s time but it was impossible. Miller was the only one who had options after the first set but in the second he lost half a second and all the options were destroyed. Finally, Pecco signed the second best time and Zarco, who played it to a single lap, kicked Aleix Espargaró from the front row after setting the third best time. The Spaniard will start fourth with the Aprilia. Regarding the rest of the Spanish, Rins was eighth and Mir ninth.
