Raid against gang of smugglers

Use of the federal police: a gang of people smugglers is said to have helped Vietnamese women to obtain residence permits, among other things through bought paternity recognition of German men.

Berlin – The men need money, the women a legal residence: A smuggler gang is said to have organized false paternity recognition of German men on a large scale for residence permits of Vietnamese women.

On Tuesday, the police in Berlin raided the Vietnamese-German group. Police searched 13 homes and businesses, the federal police announced. The 65-year-old alleged head of the group was caught. According to the public prosecutor’s office, there was an arrest warrant against him.

The federal police spoke of around 80 cases of smuggled women and men that were detectable. According to a widespread fraud model, according to the police, German men recognize one or more paternity of pregnant Vietnamese women. The men get cash for this, but rather “small amounts”, for example in the lower four-digit range.

The alleged fathers often do not have a steady income. According to the police, they come from the “drinking milieu”, so no maintenance can be claimed from them. The recognition of paternity is certified by a notary, the child receives German citizenship after birth and the mother receives a residence permit.

In addition, it is also about fictitious marriages. The gang is said to have mediated several marriages between Vietnamese and Germans in Denmark in order to be able to submit real marriage certificates to the Berlin immigration office. A right to stay for Vietnamese is said to have been derived from this.

There are eight German and Vietnamese main suspects between the ages of 34 and 64 and three supporters, it said. The gang really cashed in on people smuggled in: the perpetrators are said to have demanded between 10,000 and 20,000 euros per person.

It was only in March that the federal police caught another gang of people smugglers. The suspects are said to have forced Vietnamese women who came to Germany illegally into prostitution in illegal brothels. The Federal Criminal Police Office described Berlin as the “hub” of Vietnamese human traffickers in Western Europe. dpa
