Coffs Harbor (AP) – Australian film star Russell Crowe (57) wants to set up a large film studio in his home country. Coffs Harbor in eastern Australia was chosen as the location, halfway between Sydney and the famous Gold Coast, as it was called on Wednesday at the presentation. Crowe lives near the coastal town.

“For several years I have been thinking about how I can combine the place where I live and my work,” said the Oscar-winning actor (“Gladiator”), according to the broadcaster ABC. According to the plans, the studio will be built very close to the 4-star Pacific Bay Resort, where film crews can stay while filming is taking place.

Down Under has developed into a popular location for film projects from all over the world since the beginning of the corona pandemic because the country has the virus under control so successfully. Based on Hollywood, Australia is already called “Aussiewood”.

Acting colleague and friend Jack Thompson (80) emphasized: “This will be great for the Australian film industry because it confirms that we are a focus for English-language films.” The Elvis film with Tom Hanks in the lead was also recently in Australia turned. Julia Roberts and George Clooney are shooting their “Ticket to Paradise” on the Whitsunday Islands in Queensland, and Ron Howard’s “Thirteen Lives” about the cave disaster in Thailand is currently being produced on the Gold Coast.

When the construction of Crowe’s film studio will begin is still unclear. The investment costs are expected to amount to 438 million Australian dollars (278 million euros), according to ABC.
