Born in Ávila in 1515 , Teresa Sánchez de Cepeda Dávila y Ahumada , better known as Santa Teresa de Jesús, was a woman of exceptional mental and heart talent. Fleeing from home, he entered the convent of the Carmelites of Avila in Spain at the age of twenty . She struggled before reaching what she calls her “conversion” at age 39. But the encounter with some spiritual directors launched her with great strides towards perfection. In the order of the Carmelites he conceived and implemented the reform that took his name . She combined the highest contemplation with intense activity as a reformer of the Carmelite Order. After being in the monastery of San José in Ávila, with the authorization of the general of the Order, he dedicated himself to other foundations and was able to extend the reform also to the male branch . Faithful to the Church, in the spirit of the Council of Trent, he contributed to the renewal of the entire ecclesial community. He died in Alba de Tormes (Salamanca) in 1582, being beatified in 1614.
