Two years ago the Spanish company Pikolin surprised by presenting its first mattress with artificial intelligence (AI), SMARTP! K. Now, this innovation with 100% Spanish technology is updated and improved thanks to the collaboration of another national company specialized in the Internet of Things (IoT), Geeksme. The new version of the smart mattress incorporates technological and aesthetic renovations aimed at improving the user experience. The greatest innovation lies in the fact that it is the mattress itself that has two smart devices so that it can read the data of up to two people. Connectivity, via Wi-Fi instead of Bluetooth, avoids having to manually synchronize, which is done automatically.
The new version of SMARTP! K with artificial intelligence maintains the premise of its predecessor to improve sleep, and is equipped with an intelligent system that collects information from the people who sleep in it, analyzes it and advises what habits should be acquired or changed to improve sleep hours. The time at which you fall asleep, what percentage of it has passed in the deep sleep phase, the truly restorative, or the temperature of the room are some of the parameters that the system analyzes. Thanks to the sensors located in the mattress, it detects the presence and movements that are made every night. The sensor has the ability to separately capture the data of up to two sleepers, in order to offer a personalized analysis to each of them.
SMARTP! K offers recommendations for the user to improve their rest experience, among others, it gives indications that help them remember when it is time to turn the mattress or remember the temperature at which the best rest occurred. “We have taken a further step in the application of artificial intelligence to our products,” explains the head of Innovation and Development at Pikolin, César Isac. “It is a path that we are beginning, but without a doubt we are going to travel at a good pace. It is the future”.
Pikolin has invested around five million euros in this project, part of it in the application that collects and processes the data in real time: Sleep, which reports daily on the sleep phases and quality; Coach, a virtual assistant that offers a personalized guide and proposes challenges to obtain a better rest , and that even measures sexual performance (frequency, intensity, duration …); and My Mattress, another assistant that provides data about the wear of the mattress based on the number of hours of use and notices when is a good time to change it, as well as to turn it over and / or rotate it in order to guarantee its proper maintenance.
Since the launch of the first version in the summer of 2017, SMARTP! K has monitored 140,000 dreams, yielding such relevant information, such as that Spaniards sleep, on average, 7 hours and 5 minutes, with the average bedtime being 00:50 and the one to get up at 07:55, bands relatively higher than the European average.
We also know that not all Spaniards sleep the same. Thanks to SMARTP! K, we know that Madrid is among the cities that sleep the most, while La Rioja and Navarra are among those that spend the least time sleeping. Stress, tobacco and interruptions to go to the toilet are the three factors that most disturb the sleep of Spaniards. The intake of coffee and / or alcohol in the hours before going to bed are other prominent factors.
Will we test it to see if it is true that we can sleep better and with more intelligence?
