If your memory fails, you may have smoked too much this weekend . This is clear from a recent study by Northumbria University (United Kingdom) that indicates that "social smokers", that is, who only smoke an average of 20 cigarettes during weekends, usually in the company of friends and family, suffer damage to their memory identical to those who use tobacco on a daily basis.
Through a series of experiments, the researchers showed that both those who smoked seven days a week and those who smoked only two out of seven days performed worse on tests of prospective memory – which allows us to remember programmed actions – than non-smokers. Tom Heffernan, co-author of the research published in the journal Open Addiction , says that the memory impairment linked to tobacco can be attributed to accelerated brain decline since smoking shrinks the brain .
Would you stop smoking in public spaces again?
