Some matches of the Qatar World Cup will be broadcast by ViX + and you can see them for 119 pesos

Content is king. This phrase, which has been repeated for years within content generating companies, is now becoming relevant within the streaming industry. The arrival of new competitors looking to get a slice of the market has generated a fierce fight between players to get hold of the best series, movies, and the rights to broadcast sports content. And ViX+, TelevisaUnivision’s new platform, wants its own slice.

Just over three months after launching ViX, the platform’s free modality, Rodrigo Mazón, executive vice president and general manager of ViX+, explains that it has been well received by users and although it is a version sponsored by advertising, the audience is willing to accept commercials to access its content.

Today TelevisaUnivision launches the premium version of ViX, called ViX+ and for which users will pay 119 pesos . In exchange, they will be able to access exclusive content such as the broadcast of the next World Cup in Qatar, as well as original series and films in whose production Ventanarosa Productions, Salma Hayek’s production house, will participate.

To differentiate itself from the rest of the players, the new platform has designed a content bar focused on the Spanish-speaking public, which in the company’s opinion was not yet fully served by the sector.

“One of the main advantages we have is that Televisa and Univisión have a very long history in the world of content production and distribution, decades of intellectual property, talent, linear businesses that give us the strength to promote and build on this business. . Without a doubt, the advantage we have is that we are 100% Latino,” says Mazón.

Sports, the ace up the sleeve of ViX +

Sports content has become one of the main magnets to attract, or even retain, new subscribers. Streaming platforms are aware that having this type of content represents “added value”, which is why they have focused on adding sports leagues to their programming grid.

TelevisaUnivision is no stranger to this trend, which is why it will add sporting events such as the UEFA Champions League, the Europa League, the UEFA Nations League, the European World Cup and Liga MX, Expansión MX and MX to the premium version of its platform. feminine. It will also feature the broadcast of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar that will take place in November this year, which will mean that the World Cup will be seen in streaming for the first time.

Mazón assures that the offer of sports content will undoubtedly mark a competitive advantage for ViX +, since not all streaming platforms have this type of programming. The executive says that for a decade there has been this demand by subscribers.

“I think it is clear that the entire industry is moving in that direction. That is why we must build the most attractive proposal possible to be the most used streaming in the country and in that sense, sports is an important pillar,” says the executive.

In addition to sports, melodrama will be another of the platform’s bets to capture the attention of users. This genre is one of the most liked by the Spanish-speaking market. The platform will include an offer of ‘series’, a term with which the company calls series with a soap opera plot.

“Televisa and Univisión have a long history of success and creation of intellectual property in this genre and now we want to continue developing it,” adds Mazón.

Post-Broadcast Television Programming: Subscribers in the United States will be able to watch their favorite Univision primetime shows 72 hours after they air on that channel. In Mexico, they will be able to watch selected programs from the Las Estrellas channel on the same day. Simultaneous transmission of TV channels: Subscribers in Mexico and Latin America will be able to watch live TV channels, including Distrito Comedia, while subscribers in Mexico will also be able to watch Las Estrellas, Canal 5, TUDN and Nu9ve, all in one place.

With a strategy that combines a competitive subscription price with exclusive content focused on serving the Hispanic market, the platform will seek to consolidate itself as “one of the great streaming platforms in Mexico.”
