No sign of summer weather in Germany. On the contrary: the country is sinking into continuous rain. Some experts warn of new storms – also in Hesse.
Update from Wednesday, July 14th, 2021, 11.20 a.m.: The people in Hesse have to be prepared for heavy rain and sometimes also for storms. The German Weather Service (DWD) announced in Offenbach that extreme storms on Wednesday (July 14th, 2021) could not be ruled out locally. During the day, heavy cloud cover moves across the north and west of Hesse. Heavy rains are also threatened in Central Hesse *.
Sometimes heavy rain for several hours falls into the storm area. The afternoon temperatures are between 20 and 23 degrees, at high altitudes around 17 to 20 degrees. Squalls are also possible during thunderstorms. At night there is still a local risk of storms. In the further course, the precipitation decreases at lows between 15 and 11 degrees. On Thursday (July 15th, 2021) it will be cloudy, especially in the southern half. The DWD reckons with showers and sometimes strong thunderstorms with a local risk of storms.

We sit between the chairs. In the west of Germany, the warm, humid air masses from the east and the cool air masses from the west converge, ”he says. The result: an almost stationary rain band with continuous rain for hours. There are also isolated thunderstorms *.

Weather in Germany: weather service warns of continuous rain – districts in Hesse affected
“I have seldom seen such blatant amounts of precipitation in the west,” Dominik Jung warns of the current weather. Therefore, the meteorologist appeals to pay attention to the current water levels. “In regions that are always at risk from flooding *, secure your basement. That could be pretty tricky. Such intense continuous rain in summer * and that over 72 hours is rather rare in the west of the country. “
Regionally, the experts expect torrential rain in the next 72 hours. During this period alone, two to three times the monthly amount of precipitation could fall. Streams and rivers can quickly become a raging danger. There is an acute risk of storms in Germany. Especially in North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse, Baden-Württemberg and Saarland. The Hessian State Office for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology (hlnug) in Wiesbaden also expects the water levels of the rivers in Hesse to rise in the next few days.
Weather in Germany: West is sinking in continuous rain – acute flood risk also in Hesse
In the east of Hesse, due to the heavy rainfall, increased water levels can be expected on Tuesday. In the Werra and Ulster areas in particular, the Environment Agency expects the reporting levels to be exceeded. Due to the announced rainfalls, a strong plus can also be expected on the Rhine until Thursday (July 15, 2021). The water level at the Mainz gauge is currently at reporting level one. At this stage it can happen that water overflows the banks and floods areas. The weather should remain tense until Friday. Only then can an improvement be expected.

At least the current forecast * by the experts gives cause for cautious anticipation of summer weather in Germany: “From the weekend it could be friendlier: more sun, less rain and warm summer everywhere. The development is still a bit uncertain, ”says Dominik Jung. (yw) * giessener-allgemeine.de and op-online.de are offers from IPPEN.MEDIA.
