Mick Schumacher’s upcoming debut is generating increased interest in Formula 1 among TV viewers. In a representative multisport study by Sky Media with Nielsen Sports among Sky subscribers, 35 percent of those surveyed said they wanted to watch the premier class more often when the son of record world champion Michael Schumacher starts as a driver.
For the 2021 season, which begins on March 28 in Bahrain, pay-TV broadcaster Sky has secured the exclusive rights to Formula 1. However, four of the 23 races currently planned must also be shown on free TV.
Mediengruppe RTL secured the free TV rights as part of an extensive partnership in the areas of streaming and content with Sky.
According to the study, the majority of those surveyed are satisfied with the pay-TV’s Formula 1 offer.
