A high pressure area over southern France and Spain will bring Germany extremely mild air from the Mediterranean region well into the coming week – but not much sunshine.
Offenbach – Subtropical air instead of snow in the middle of December: A high pressure area over southern France and Spain allows extremely mild air to flow from the Mediterranean into Germany well into the coming week.
Especially in the north-west of the country, according to the German Weather Service (DWD), temperatures will rise to around eleven degrees on Monday.
In the Rhineland, even 13 degrees can be reached locally. “Frost occurs in the nights, if at all, only in the highest elevations,” said a DWD meteorologist in Offenbach on Saturday. Accordingly, the snow, which covered many regions on Saturday, is retreating almost everywhere.
Despite the very mild temperatures, there is hardly any sunshine. “Warm doesn’t mean dry,” said the meteorologist. Because on Monday there is mainly rain in the southeast, on Tuesday and Wednesday in the north and in the middle there is always rain.
From the middle of the week, fog or high fog forms in the lower areas, where it remains correspondingly cloudy. After all: “The mountains, on the other hand, could well get many hours of sunshine,” said the weather expert. dpa
