Birthday in the pandemic: the eldest daughter of King Carl XVI. Gustaf and Queen Silvia celebrate at Solliden Castle on the Baltic Sea island of Öland. The day turns out differently than usual.
Stockholm – A radiant princess has birthday: The Swedish heir to the throne Victoria turned 44 on Wednesday.
The eldest daughter of King Carl XVI. Gustaf (75) and Queen Silvia (77), who originally came from Heidelberg, wanted to celebrate their special day on Wednesday with the entire royal family at Solliden Castle on the Baltic Sea island of Öland. Due to the pandemic and the associated restrictions, the Crown Princess refrained from meeting well-wishers in front of the castle – as in the previous year, larger crowds should also be avoided in Sweden in Corona times.
The birthday of their Crown Princess is a big thing for Swedes every year. Around July 14th, the Victoria Days take place on Öland, during which people are encouraged to exercise more and lead a healthy lifestyle, for example during the Victoria Golf or Victoria Run.
On the eve of the birthday, the royal family had already watched the singer Carola at a concert. Framed by her mother and grandma Silvia, Victoria’s daughter Estelle (9) did a happy little dance, as a photo in the newspaper “Expressen” showed.
The official Victoria concert should then take place on Wednesday evening in the castle ruins of Borgholm. During the concert, the Crown Princess also wanted to present the Victoria Prize to this year’s winner, the speed skating world champion Nils van der Poel. dpa
