This 2020 will be remembered and studied in history books. The coronavirus came to change everything, from our day to day to the most exciting plans of our life. This was going to be a special year for Seat: it was celebrating its 70th anniversary . Congratulations remained in the digital world but the excitement for this milestone will continue for a few more months. The signature of the house grows and with it the history of the automobile of our country. A journey that we can go through remembering the most peculiar models of Seat, from the electric Toledo of the 1992 Olympic Games to the Panda Papamóvil passing through the eccentric Savio .
The alarms went off on February 11, 2019. A fire at the Seat facilities in the Zona Franca threatened to burn the units conserved in the A122 warehouse . That name alone speaks volumes to car buffs. In this space, barely open to a few private visits a year, is the collection of Historic Seat Cars. The fire started in the warehouse next door and soon the most precious vehicles began to be evicted, starting with those at the door. The rapid action of the Barcelona Fire Brigade, the security forces and Seat employees kept the collection intact, without any casualties. At that time, the chairman of Seat, Luca de Meo, thanked the action as follows: “ 600 thousand thanks to the Barcelona Firefighters, the Urban Guard, Mossos d’Esquadra, SEAT Emergency Services and to the employees for getting the SEAT’s history lives on. The 317 incredible collectible vehicles are still intact. “
Among the more than 300 vehicles saved that day were some of those that we bring you in this gallery. Cars that, for some reason, have marked a turning point in the history of the Spanish firm, either because of their unique design or because of the merits achieved in competition. There is also no shortage of extravagant and unhelpful units, in real life, such as the Ateca Mattracks or the Ibiza Cupster .
