The desert is an area of extremely dry land with little or no rainfall. In addition, it is one of the most important ecosystems on Earth, since there are numerous species of plants and animals that have adapted to live in such conditions. Likewise, deserts cover approximately one fifth of the earth's surface, and are found on all continents of the planet. For this reason, it is possible to differentiate between hot, cold, coastal, mountainous and semi-arid deserts.
Due to the scarcity of water, it is difficult for living beings to survive in the desert. However, many species have adapted to living under extreme temperatures and arid soils. In hot deserts during the day temperatures can reach 50 degrees Celsius, and at night they can drop to 0 degrees or minus ten degrees. In polar deserts, on the other hand, temperatures can reach minus 50 degrees.
On the other hand, hot deserts are found in the tropical and temperate latitudes of the equator. However, they are also located in other areas such as Australia, Chile, Argentina, the United States, Mexico, Russia or North Africa, among others. Likewise, cold deserts are found in the polar areas of the Arctic and Antarctica.
