The night of San Juan in 2021 will be very different from the nights of San Juan experienced in recent years. Although the vaccination process is progressing at a good pace, it will not be enough to ensure a night like the old ones.
Cities like Almería or Alicante, two capitals where the night of San Juan is lived in a different way, have already announced that they are suspending the acts of the bonfires on June 24 . Despite this, there will be many places where San Juan will be celebrated with known limitations to avoid the transmission of the coronavirus as much as possible.
Catalonia
The Autonomous Community of Catalonia is one of those that is most involved with the celebration of the night of San Juan. This year, there will be areas where bonfires are not lit, and the party will not be the same as in other years . With all this, there will be bonfires distributed and controlled by the city.
Malaga
The Junta de Andalucía has strongly requested that during this night of San Juan they keep as much security as possible so that the virus does not spread among the younger population.
Malaga is one of the Andalusian cities that best celebrates tonight on its beaches with the arrival of hundreds of tourists. Here the burning of the juás takes place , rag dolls that are made to be thrown to the bonfires.
Galicia
In Galicia it is a tradition to burn the meigas to scare away evil spirits and purify the soul during the year escaping from the traditional witches.
The most important bonfire in Galicia is in La Coruña, but the mayor of the town, Inés Rey, confirmed the bonfires would be made in a reduced format and in a family mode due to the pandemic.
Tenerife
The island of Tenerife is also one of the towns that best celebrates the night of San Juan in our country. The beaches are full of people, and the bonfires illuminate the Tenerife coast from end to end.
This year, the authorities have made a special device to ensure that there are no concentrations, although there are many voices in the city that have advised against the celebration of bonfires.
Lanjarón – Granada
Lanjarón is a small town in the Alpujarra of Granada. The night of San Juan becomes a unique party in this small corner of Alpujarra. It is not a beach place, but they celebrate the well-known Water Festival, where all the inhabitants come out with hoses, buckets, and all kinds of containers full of water to wet the rest of the visitors.
This year it will be a different party since the Lanjarón City Council has suspended it due to the pandemic.
