A team of scientists from the University of Waterloo (Canada) has carried out a study using infrared and electromagnetic motion capture systems (such as those used in movies or video games) to track the spine during sexual intercourse with In order to find out what are the best positions to practice sex without the back suffering in such a passionate attempt.
In the experiment, ten couples practiced sex with the five most common positions such as the spoon or the missionary and the results were transmitted to an atlas or “kamasutra” of positions so as not to suffer back pain. Thus, although it has been the most recommended so far, the spoon position has turned out not to be the most suitable for practicing sex , so the atlas recommends that this position be replaced by the “dog style”.
“Family doctors have told me that many couples frequently ask what is the best way to prevent back pain during and after sex , but until now they did not have a guide with recommendations that were scientifically based,” says Stuart McGill, a co-author of the study published in the journal Spine.
This atlas of “sex without back pain”, finally defines a list with the 5 positions analyzed from most to least successful for this purpose : the position of the dog with the woman resting on her elbows, the ‘missionary’, with the man on top of the woman leaning on her hands, the position of the ‘dog’ with the woman leaning on her hands, the ‘missionary’ with the man leaning on his elbows and lastly, and least recommended, the ‘spoon’.
“Many of the patients who routinely have back pain have told us that they experience elevated levels of pain during orgasm, to the point where they avoid having one during sexual intercourse with their partner. These initial results will help us understand what causes this pain during climax ”, explains Natalie Sidorkewicz, the study leader, to the Sinc agency.
