The crisis has meant a change in people's lifestyles, and the consequences are also seen on the scale. According to a report carried out by the Sondea Institute for the Herbalife company, 25 percent of Spaniards claim to have gained weight since the beginning of the crisis.
Spanish citizens have tightened their belts in recent years, and this has meant reducing trips to bars and restaurants, consuming cheaper food and, on many occasions, reducing sports activity. For example, more than 60 percent of those surveyed indicate that they cannot afford a gym unless their financial situation improves.
About a quarter of those surveyed say they have gained weight since the crisis began, and 30 percent of them could have gained more than 7 kilos, according to the survey. Experts recommend following a healthy diet, something easy to do without spending more money. "It is time to make a rational consumption of food and a smarter purchase. Fill the shopping basket with fruit and vegetables, cheaper in Spain compared to other places, go to seasonal products, buy meat and fish fresh, "explained Julián Álvarez, a member of the Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Council.
