The Cupra Tavascan becomes a reality and will arrive in 2024

Seat has us accustomed to informative bombings at the least expected moment. For this reason, during the annual press conference organized by the Catalan firm there was a certain tension and expectation. Wayne Griffiths, current president of Seat and Cupra, did not disappoint and there were several headlines that accompanied a session in which numbers were also discussed. But let’s go in parts. The first, and most anticipated, news is the achievement of a dream that we glimpsed during the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show: the Cupra Tavascan .

This crossover, with its bold character and extravagant proportions, looked like a concept car at the German saloon. Its success was immediate and a few hours ago Griffiths presented it under this commitment: “Our dream has come true: the CUPRA Tavascan will be a reality. Based on the MEB platform of the Volkswagen Group , it will be designed and developed in Barcelona and will reach Europe and international markets in 2024 ”.

It will arrive in 2024

The Tavascan will be the second 100% electric model of the firm, since the Cupra el-Born will arrive at the end of this 2021. Its spirit will take the sporting vision of the Martorell firm one step further, with outstanding aerodynamic doses and a design that will not leave anyone indifferent. The essential data of its body, such as its size, height and interior habitability, have not yet been revealed. However, the first images of this electric give us room for imagination and the creation of expectations.

The Tavascan will arrive in 2024, when the Volkswagen ID-4, Ford Mustang Mach-E, BMW iX3 and Tesla Model Y are months ahead in the market. As with the Cupra Formentor, the promise lies in highly emotional driving sensations and the ability to choose between different versions of its portfolio.

Matter of imagining

We have very little certainty about the Tavascan. One of them is that it will not be manufactured in Martorell even though its full development will take place in Barcelona, specifically the plant’s R&D team. This SUV coupe, named after a town in the Pyrenees, will be built on the MEB platform of the Volkswagen Group, an architecture that gives us an approved autonomy of more than 500 kilometers and powers of more than 300 CV .

The video filtered by the firm lets us see certain aesthetic winks that remind us of the Formentor, but it is even more Cupra. The marked lines of its silhouette, with special mention to the lateral blisters that raise the waist to the rear optical groups. Some headlights that follow the style marked by the current models but with a sharp size and with the Cupra logo illuminated in the center of the coupe hatchback , a detail that we will see if it reaches production.

Inside, minimalism and the large central screen stand out, positioned horizontally and not vertically, as happens with some of its rivals such as the Mach-E or Model Y. The sports steering wheel with satellite controls is a kind of promise: the Tavascan it will have a claw . For now they show us a cabin for four people, with individual seats and noble and highly technological materials. We will see its evolution over the months.
