AutoThe electrified strategy of Groupe PSA

The electrified strategy of Groupe PSA

Groupe PSA has already demonstrated on numerous occasions its commitment to respecting the environment and reducing CO2 emissions. However, with a view to next year 2020, the group has decided to reinforce this commitment by presenting its electrification strategy based on two multi-energy platforms CMP and EMP2, which allow it to respond to the needs of all types of customers. This strategy ranges from the industrial process, to the product offer, through a wide catalog of services.

Already throughout this year 2019, 100% of the group’s launches have incorporated an electrified version that coexists with efficient Euro 6 diesel engines, so that the entire range will be electrified in 2025. All this is possible thanks to the platforms flexible multi-energy, which allow the manufacture of gasoline, diesel, 100% electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles on the same assembly line. An approach that allows, undoubtedly, a rapid adaptation of the production of the Groupe PSA plants to the possible changes that may be generated in the market.

Main goal

The intention of the company is to offer the client the ability to choose the type of technology that best suits both their tastes and needs. In addition, users who choose to join electrification have the option of making this choice without giving up other aspects such as design, performance, equipment, comfort or interior space, which are the same regardless of the type of energy used. use.

The strategy is specified in nine electrified models , which have the label 0 of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT): the 100% electric Peugeot e-208 and e-2008, DS 3 Crossback E-Tense and Opel Corsa-e; and the plug-in hybrids Peugeot 3008 Hybrid, Citroën C5 Aircross Hybrid, DS 7 Crossback E-Tense 4×4 and Opel Grandland X Hybrid.

Different areas

Likewise, Groupe PSA’s strategy also affects many other fields, such as batteries, or the wide range of services offered to customers through the Free2Move mobility brand, with the intention of responding to the needs of use of the vehicle and the necessary adaptation to the energy transition in the car. Specifically, Groupe PSA offers access to services such as Charge My Car, which includes, for example, access to charging points and a smart browser adapted to the needs of electrified models.

Alexandre Guignard , global director of the Low Emission Vehicles Business Unit at Groupe PSA, points out that “our electrification strategy is based on flexible multi-energy modular platforms, which allow the development of gasoline, diesel, 100% electric or plug-in hybrid models in parallel and thus to be able to adapt in an agile way to the demand of the client ”. For his part, Christophe Mandon, general director of Commerce of Groupe PSA in Spain and Portugal, adds that “nine models, 100% electric and plug-in hybrids, can already be purchased in the commercial network of the group’s brands: Peugeot, Citroën, DS and Opel; with a wide catalog of services that respond to all the concerns posed to the customer when buying an electrified vehicle “.
