The enormous and magical power that kisses have on our children

It is not the first time in Babies and more than I speak of those feelings that our children provoke in us. It is almost a given that becoming mothers and fathers “unlocks” a new level of love that we have never known before .

Personally, I had never felt my heart so full of love when giving a kiss or a hug , until I was a mother. Sure, I also give hugs and kisses to my parents, my sister and my partner, but when it comes to the children, it is a very different feeling.

Giving my daughter a kiss is such a beautiful thing that I often find myself turned into that mother who wants to kiss her baby. So on the occasion of the International Kissing Day, I want to tell you about the enormous and magical power that kisses have on our children .

Kisses, a great little token of love

What do you feel when giving or receiving a kiss from your children? At first glance they seem such a simple, short and small voluntary act, almost unimportant. But a kiss says a lot .

A kiss from me to my daughter, for example, is a sign of the love I feel for her and my need to convey it to her. A kiss from her to me is something similar, although in the case of children it can also mean many other things .

Our little ones may want to kiss us not only because they love us. They can also do it as a way of saying that in that moment they need us and our affection.

” In a kiss you will know everything that I have kept silent, ” said the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda. And it is that through that simple gesture, important messages go like “I love you”, “I thought of you”, “I miss you”.

We kiss each other to say hello when we see each other again, when we say goodbye to remember each other with affection, when we celebrate something happily together, and we spontaneously kiss each other when we feel that love invades us (or in my case, when I give myself My daughter does not stop growing).

The power of kisses for our children

Kisses, like hugs, are essential as one of the many forms of affective expression, and for that reason, they are very important in raising children.

Many of us know that they have healing powers, as a kiss from mom or dad can be the best medicine . When our children get hurt or go through a situation that causes them fear or pain, it is a beautiful gesture that gives them comfort.

Kisses also have loving benefits for our children, as they help us to strengthen our bond with them and remind them at various times of the day that we are here for when they need us, that they are not alone.

There is the morning kiss, the one that is given when we wake up or to wish us a beautiful day. The same with the goodnight kiss , with which we say goodbye together at the end of another day and share our wishes for sweet dreams.

Let’s not forget the kiss when saying goodbye to him at school, which is impregnated with the hope of meeting later and makes the wait more bearable, as well as the kiss when we meet again , when they come home or when we go to look for them.

Of course, and like many other things in life with children, kisses evolve . They tend to be easier when they are small and they ask for them by themselves, so we will have to take advantage of those moments, because we remember that they are only small once.

However, with this we do not say that as children grow up, kisses disappear. On the contrary, they are customs and small rituals that should not be lost with the passage of time. Because always, at the beginning or end of the day, whether they are older or young, kisses are still powerful for our children.

We live surrounded by technology and it is inevitable that this will be incorporated as one more tool in parenting. In addition to apps that help with things ranging from designing your baby's room to managing the calendar of children with separated parents, devices such as tablets, mobile phones or smart speakers are here to stay. Proof of this is the growing use of Alexa as a timer that children obey without question (or at least without protesting as much as their mother).
