The arrival of the coronavirus in our lives is showing that science is the only way out of this pandemic. With the arrival of vaccines, and despite the fact that thousands of daily cases are still being recorded around the world, it seems that little by little more light can be seen at the end of this tunnel into which the whole world entered at the beginning of 2020.
Thanks to experimentation and research, in the coming months we will see great advances appear in the fight against COVID-19, and not only related to vaccines. These are drugs that will serve to alleviate much more the effects in those seriously infected people, the real struggle of doctors around the world.
A hopeful drug
According to some international media such as The Jerusalem Post, the Sourasky Medical Center, in Tel Aviv (Israel), has managed to develop a drug, which is in the experimental phase (EXO-CD24), which manages to cure 93% of patients who have suffered a serious picture of the virus.
The trials have been carried out on 90 patients who were hospitalized and 93% of them have responded satisfactorily to the test, leaving promising results in the fight against coronavirus globally.
These patients managed to overcome a serious state of the disease, and obtained medical discharge in five days, a fact of relevance if we take into account that there are patients who can be serious for weeks in hospital ICUs.
Rehearsal in Athens
The drug is currently in a second phase of trials. This sample was carried out in Athens, since Israel did not have enough relevant patients in serious condition, due to the advanced vaccination that the country has been in for months.
These data confirmed what the researchers had already obtained in the first phases. And it is that in the initial phase there were 30 patients who were treated with the drug, of which 29 managed to recover from the disease in several days.
In addition, as pointed out by the team that is carrying out this advance, led by Professor Nadir Arber, no significant side effects have been reported, so the value of this drug takes on even more importance.
‘The main objective of this study was to verify that the drug is safe . To date, we have not registered any significant side effects in any patient in both groups ”, the professor assured the press in his country.
The team is already preparing the third phase to certify the good results of this drug against the coronavirus that could be a revolution in the coming months. In the third phase there will be 155 participants , to whom two thirds will be applied the drug and the rest will be inoculated with a placebo.
