The popular faces that we use in instant messaging applications like WhatsApp no longer have to be yellow. The Unicode consortium, responsible for creating international standards for text and characters in the software platforms, plans that users can change the skin color of these emoticons , also known by their Japanese name, "emojis" at will.
The designers of the new symbols intend for us to choose between six hues, as leaked through a draft. These skin nuances would be based on the so-called Fitzpatrick scale, used in dermatology . You would only have to press your finger on the face to change its color. At the moment, it is not contemplated to do the same with the hair or the eyes.
This initiative probably echoes a request made to Apple through the dosomething.com page so that the mobile pictograms reflect the racial diversity of the planet. If approved, the new version of Unicode 8.0 emojis will be available in mid-2015.
