The history of Peugeot at Le Mans since 905

The electrification of the automobile fleet is, today, a conflict for motor enthusiasts. It’s hard to imagine an exciting battery-powered future. However, anything is possible, as competitions show by catching up and innovating. An example of this is the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the most iconic and well-known event of all time, in which the most powerful hypercars (now hybrids) have raced since the early 1920s. In 1992 Peugeot consecrated its 905 in this race resistance , also taking first place in the constructors’ classification. More than thirty years later, the signature of the lion recovers its sporting essence with the Peugeot 9×8, the hypercar that will compete at Le Mans defending the value and excellence of the French firm.

Peugeot is a firm with more than 210 years of history, but its foray into resistance did not come until the 1990s. It was then that the development of the Peugeot 905 began, with the return to the Sarthe circuit as an official team . The brand entered the World Championship for Sport Prototypes, which is now the FIA World Endurance Championship . He did it with the aim of showing the values of the brand – excellence, attraction and emotion – but ended up becoming the winner of the test a year later. Three decades later the situation is similar, the public requires prestigious inputs and images to decide on one car or another.

The Peugeot 905, with a 3.5-liter V10 block and 650 hp of power , has nothing to do with the current Peugeot 9×8. The latter follows in the wake of the last illustrious members of his family, but with electrical technology as an ally. It combines a 680 hp petrol V6 biturbo block with a 270 hp electric motor that, together, reaches 750 hp. A power that must be managed not only mechanically, but also in the aerodynamic aspect. The image of this hypercar leaves no one indifferent , starting with the absence of the usual spoiler of considerable dimensions. But it is not the only feature of this hybrid car, we will tell you more in the gallery.
