Hyundai has decided to expand the Kona family with the arrival of a new non-plug-in hybrid version (HEV). In this way, the new urban crossover completes one of the most extensive ranges that we currently find on the market, allowing the user to reduce consumption and emissions in a very effective way, and offering a series of technological improvements that include advanced Bluelink connectivity functions. , driver assistance systems, SmartSense active safety, and state-of-the-art infotainment functions. With this latest version, the Kona responds to the demand of European customers for more environmentally friendly vehicles with SUV bodywork.
The original Kona was launched in October 2017 as Hyundai’s first urban SUV in Europe. However, from the moment this first Kona hit the market, it was already known that it would be a success. And we are not mistaken, since since then almost 120,000 units of the entire range have been sold in Europe. Last year, the Korean manufacturer introduced the electric Kona, which became its first fully electric compact SUV. And now, it introduces the hybrid version to offer even more options to its customers.
In fact, the Kona range has exceeded the expectations of European customers. After its first full year of sales, the model has been able to win over new customer groups, contributing significantly to the strong position Hyundai currently occupies in the growing compact SUV segment. In particular, the impressive worldwide demand for the electric Kona, thanks to its powerful powertrain and long range, has even exceeded Hyundai’s forecasts.
Andreas-Christoph Hofmann , Vice President of Marketing and Product of Hyundai Motor Europe, comments that “Hyundai already has the widest range of engines on the market, and with the launch of the new Kona Hybrid we offer our European customers even more options within the segment. of the ecological SUV ”. “In addition to its elegant design and efficient hybrid powertrain, customers can now also enjoy the most advanced connectivity features,” concludes Hofmann.
