The largest seas in the world and where they are

The Earth is made up mostly of water. The seas and oceans are the true protagonists of our planet . There are many types of seas and the largest seas in the world are spread all over the planet, although none of the three largest are in Europe.

Taking as a reference the extension of the Mediterranean Sea that we all know, with an area of 2.5 million square kilometers , we are going to see which are the largest seas on the planet.

Arabian Sea

The largest of the known seas on our planet is the Arabian Sea which is located in the Indian Ocean, in Asia. Known as the Arabian Sea or the Sea of Oman, this immense place covers an area of 3,862,000 million square kilometers and has a coastline in countries such as Yemen, Somalia, Pakistan, Oman, India and the Maldives.

The maximum depth of the Arabian Sea is 4,652 meters near the Arabian Peninsula.

South China Sea

We find it in the Pacific Ocean, it has an area of 3.5 million square kilometers. It comprises an area that is bounded between Indonesia and Malaysia , eventually merging into the Taiwan Strait.

The great extension of this sea and the innumerable islands that compose it have given rise to numerous conflicts between different nations to gain control of this immense length of water. China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Brunei, the Philippines or Vietnam have claimed the sovereignty of this South China Sea, an important commercial enclave for all of Asia.

Caribbean sea

Another important sea that is among the largest on the planet located, this time, in the Atlantic Ocean, on the American continent. Its surface is 2.7 million square kilometers and the deepest point is found between Cuba and Jamaica with 7,686 meters of depth below sea level.

This sea connects with the Pacific Ocean through the Panama Canal. It is an open sea, with a large coastal area, especially located in Venezuela that has more than 4,208 kilometers of coastline throughout the country.

Mediterranean Sea

It is the sea that we know best in Spain. The Mediterranean is the fourth largest sea in the world with an area of 2.5 million square kilometers and skirts three continents: Europe, Asia and Africa.

Mar de Bering

Finally, the fifth sea in the world that exceeds 2 million square kilometers is the Bering Sea, which is located between America and Asia through the Pacific Ocean.

This sea is one of the most difficult to navigate given its climatic conditions: frost and very cold. During the winter, the north that connects with Alaska and Siberia , is usually frozen, while in other areas the waves are usually quite high all year round.
