Two cars to dream of and to drive, the Toyota GR86 and the Toyota Supra, two very special genuine coupés, one lightened and with more power developed with the circuit in mind, on ‘track days’ and extreme use, and the other even more so, the version with manual transmission, genuine and so nostalgic that not even its original manufacturer has in its range. Neither is genuinely Toyota, the GR86 is the result of a ‘joint venture’ with Subaru and the Supra something similar but with BMW; but the important thing is what Toyota has done in record time, and that is to have two spectacular sports cars in its range, two cars with excellent dynamic performance with a concept that almost borders on exclusive sportsmanship in these times, in which everything revolves around the electric or electrified.
And it is that Toyota is at the top of motorsport through GR Toyota Gazoo Racing and its different sports programs, such as the World Rally Championship or the WEC, the World Endurance Championship, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the legendary race in which Toyota is already the most successful Japanese manufacturer and is on its way to being one of the brands with the most victories to its credit. All these activities show all the passion for sports motoring of the Japanese manufacturer, which in turn transfers it to its customers through the GR range, the sportiest, which already has three elements in the family with the GR Yaris together with the GR86 and GR Supra. And all this has also given rise to a range of sports image, as are all the GR Sport, sports finishes to differentiate their series cars a little with a little pepper, something that affects the Corolla, Yaris, C-HR and even the Hilux pick up, as the original base of the Dakar winner.
Thus the Toyota GR86 is the perfect archetype of the light and fun coupé, with front engine and rear wheel drive, but now, in its GR86 specification, it has a more rigid body, a lower center of gravity and a retouched and more powerful engine than its predecessor, so that in Toyota they have touched all the necessary sticks to make it much more special, much more sporty and agile to enjoy behind the wheel. In fact, it is something to think about, especially since Toyota has announced that 200 copies will be manufactured and will be sold only in Europe and for two years, with a price that starts at 32,900 euros.
