The new Lexus electric starts an era in design and performance

Lexus ushers in a new era by introducing its first vehicle developed from the ground up to be exclusively electric. We are referring to the RZ 450e, a new battery electric SUV that not only adopts electric power from the battery instead of a conventional combustion engine, but goes much further and realizes the exciting potential of new technologies that enhance performance and fuel economy. driving pleasure, true to the Lexus Electrified philosophy. In fact, the company has taken advantage of its more than 15 years of experience in electrification to maximize the advantages of this model.

Chief Engineer Takashi Watanabe explained that his “vision is to use electrification technology as a means of enhancing performance.” And as a result of that experience, Lexus incorporates an advanced transmission called DIRECT4, which combines the use of two e-Axles on the front and rear axles, with independent torque control on each of the four wheels. It also has an optional One Motion Grip system, which combines the Steering Yoke steering wheel with a Steer-by-wire steering system.

The platform and the fact that it is a 100% electric vehicle also open new paths in terms of design. The exterior reinterprets the body with the ‘Spindle Body’ concept, revealing the evolution of the Lexus characteristic double arrowhead grille, now applied to the entire body of the vehicle; while the interior is a minimalist and open space, both simple and luxurious, expressing Lexus omotenashi hospitality and takumi craftsmanship.

Thanks to this new model, whose deliveries will start at the end of 2022 , Lexus aims to be a 100% electric brand globally by 2035. With the ambition to reach that goal by 2030 in Europe, and the RZ is the next step for Lexus towards that goal. Even so, the brand continues to bet on technological diversity, to satisfy the different mobility needs.
