The Ski World Cup has grown stronger since its inauguration in 1967. The International Ski Federation hosts this annual competition in which teams from around the world compete for the cup, a 19-pound glass globe trophy. However, this is not your typical ski competition. The slopes are not for beginners and leave the crowd on the edge of their seats with every turn. In addition to the Winter Olympics, the World Cup is considered the best alpine skiing competition in the world.
There are four disciplines in which competitors attempt to qualify: slalom, giant slalom, Super G and downhill. Each one proves to be more difficult than the last. Contestants receive points depending on their rank at the end of each race, culminating in a final score at the end, which determines the final winners.
The Nostalgia Ski World Cup
There are small competitions within the World Cup, including the Nostalgia Ski World Cup that takes place in Austria. While they’re all exciting in their own right, this is the one ski competition you don’t want to miss.
From death-defying jumps and slopes to world-famous talents, there is always excitement in the air at the Ski World Cup. The Nostalgia Ski World Cup brings something extra to the table with that touch of melancholy from the past. The name nostalgia is not a coincidence.
Contestants wear clothing from the past, such as vintage ski clothing from the 1930s and 1960s. In 1930, skiing was transformed from a leisurely activity to a competitive sport, and the attire of this era certainly represents a changing time. You can catch them in old school snow suits and funky boots.
Some contestants wear clothes from members of their family. This could even include the use of old skis and other equipment. Don’t ask us about the safety of this tradition, but it’s certainly a sight to see.
Beautiful austria
Another advantage of watching the Nostalgia Ski World Cup, and perhaps the most important aspect to keep in mind (for some attendees), is that Austria is absolutely beautiful. The breathtaking views of the mountainside are reason enough to come up with this competition.
