Bickenbach – YouTube star Philipp Mickenbecker (†23) died in June 2021 after a protracted cancer *. Time and again, he let his community participate very closely in his state of health. Despite his serious illness, he retained a positive attitude to the end, also through his faith. Now his life story is to be filmed.
The young Hessian from Bickenbach near Darmstadt started the YouTube channel The Real Life Guys together with his twin brother Johannes and their younger sister. They showed great talent as a tinkerer and presented impressive inventions that quickly made them known.

Again and again, however, they had to cope with setbacks and crises. At the age of 16, Philipp was diagnosed with lymph gland cancer for the first time. Only a few years later, the family from Bickenbach near Darmstadt suffered a severe loss with the sudden death of their sister Elli (†18). She was killed in a plane crash in 2018.
However, Philipp and Johannes continued to operate the canal. Your sister would have wanted it that way, they said in a video to their fan community. Philipp’s cancer broke out two more times afterwards, the third time he should not survive. At the beginning of October 2020 he announced in a video: “I have cancer again.”
He remained transparent to his viewers in a sometimes drastic way. When the tumor in his chest continued to grow and the skin over it began to die, Philipp Mickenbecker also showed these painful pictures *. As little as he is afraid of death itself, the process of dying is not pleasant, says Philipp in one of his videos. It is astonishing and admirable how well the Hessian from Bickenbach near Darmstadt was doing mentally until the end. He is always surprised at how much energy he has. In his last update video, which Philipp Mickenbecker recorded for his fans shortly before his death in the hospital *, he says with a smile: “I have found my peace with the situation.”
In June 2021, the YouTube community, friends, acquaintances and family members said goodbye to Philipp. With the filming of his life story, a permanent memorial should be set for him. According to unanimous media reports, it should appear under the title “The Real Life Guys – Do Something”. The project is being supported by Hessian film funding with a record sum of around 550,000 euros.
Philip’s story moved the YouTube community strongly and led to views of several million on the platform. It is therefore entirely conceivable that the film can be a success.
