The return of Seth Rogen's Ninja Turtles already has a release date

There are stories and heroes that can be easily adapted from the comics and others that, due to characteristics intrinsically related to their aesthetics and tone, cannot. One of them is The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which initially had a somewhat dark illustration and graphic story, but in its first adaptation in animated format it was bleached until it became a familiar product. For the first live action adaptation, the mythical puppeteer Jim Henson (Inside the labyrinth) was the creator of the designs that today we all know with a certain nostalgia for that 1990 film. Trying to be more realistic, the later adaptation to “pure CGI ”of 2014 and its continuation in 2016 with Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows generated some rejection, due among other things to that phenomenon known as the theory of the disturbing Valley. Last year, we learned via Deadline, that a new reboot of these Sewer Creatures was on the way, produced by Nickelodeon and Point Gray Pictures. It will be directed by Jeff Rowe (co-director of The Mitchells against the machines) and will hit theaters on August 11, 2023. The release date information arrived a few hours ago thanks to a post on Twitter by comedian Seth Rogen, the which is also involved in producing the return of the pizza-loving turtles. Among Rogen’s funny notes we can find various scribbles and words like “honor”, “loyalty” and “discipline” that refer to terms from the mythology of turtle training. It is also possible to read a note that says “apologize to April”, in reference to the character of the reporter who discovers and accompanies the heroes on their adventures. Image by @Sethrogen Little else is known apart from the last release date. The script will be in charge of an acquaintance of Rogen, Brendan O´Brien (Damn neighbors 1 and 2), while Rowe’s direction could make us think that the CGI applied by the last adaptation will not seek the extreme realism of the previous productions, given the director’s experience with animated series like Gravity Falls. What it will surely be is much more focused on comedy and away from solemnity that so little agrees with its original premise.
