The story of Isis and Osiris, two of the most important Egyptian gods

Ancient Egypt was one of the most important civilizations in history. Among its many peculiarities, one of the most interesting is that of its gods and legends. Of all that exist, the story of Isis and Osiris is fascinating, and worth telling. The earth god Geb and the sky goddess Nub had four children: twins Seth and Nephthys, and Isis and Osiris. Therefore, they were brothers, both married and reigned in Ancient Egypt during one of the most prosperous times of civilization. The lands were kept fertile thanks to the flooding of the Nile River, and the harvests were very good. Both bequeathed a wide range of disciplines to humanity. Isis the music, painting, dance and the art of cooking and weaving, and Osiris the calendar, architecture, writing, agriculture and astronomy. Isis and Osiris Long Reigned in Egypt The beginning of the end of the reign of Isis and Osiris in Ancient Egypt began with a simple confusion. Osiris mistook his wife for that of his brother, Nephthys, who in turn was their sister. Osiris and Nephthis became intimate, and months later Anubis, the god of the realm of the dead, was born. Seth wanted revenge and had a sarcophagus built with the measurements of Osiris, without his knowing it. At a party he showed the sarcophagus to the guests, and told them that it would be for the one who fit. They were all tested and, of course, only Osiris entered perfectly. Once inside, Seth’s servants closed the sarcophagus and left Osiris inside. Isis did not know what had become of her husband, so she went in search of him all over the world. He finally found it in Byblos, on the Syrian coast where the sarcophagus had been used to build a column.Isis hid with the lifeless body of Osiris, and during the time she remained hidden she gave birth to Horus. The new god of Ancient Egypt wanted revenge on her uncle for killing her father, but lost an eye in the battle. Then, he showed the eye to the mummy of Osiris, who was resurrected to take eternal life.
