The versatile artist dEmo, born in Mora (Toledo) in 1960, is one of the great international figures of pop and urban art in his own right, as well as being a passionate art collector. His creative and non-conformist spirit has been able to break molds and conventions thanks to a modern and carefree philosophy , which in turn makes him the best Fiat ambassador. An alliance based on optimism, on the democratization of the most avant-garde art, on generating pleasant sensations and smiles… in short, on promoting happiness in the streets of the whole world.
Fiat has begun to manufacture vehicles in Spain , an unprecedented milestone for the Italian brand that now combines the universal character of its models with the Spanish philosophy and taste for the autochthonous. A philosophy that can also be seen in the creations of dEmo. Among his vast work, his famous and vibrant sculptures of gummy bears stand out, which have conquered the main capitals of the world and also adorn squares in several towns in the Community of Madrid, in giant size (Boadilla del Monte), as winged figures (Getafe ) or at the entrance of the IFEMA Fairgrounds.
But also bulls, cats, cows, pigs, roosters… and characters reinterpreted in their own way such as divers, dancers… among many others that permeate the best galleries in the world, but also the streets of its cities, democratizing art and making it accessible to everybody. In fact, some of his works welcome the city, such as the friendly monster Nensi, inspired by the aesthetics of Gaudà and turned into a mascot and guardian of Leganés; or they embellish urban areas such as the Frog of Fortune, located in front of the Madrid casino in the heart of Paseo de Recoletos. The street is the best museum for dEmo, a philosophy and space that it shares with Fiat, which connects people with spaces through its vehicles to generate unique experiences, and which makes models like the 500 or 500e authentic ‘animals ‘ of the city, its natural habitat.
Another common value is internationality. In recent times, it should be remembered that the 500 had a place of honor in the exhibition ‘The value of good design’ at the MOMA in New York, and the Brand has recently inaugurated CASA 500, the Fiat exhibition space located on the fourth ground floor of the Pinacoteca Agnelli (originally created to bring society closer, democratize, several of the most important works in history) and with views of the Lingotto track.
For its part, dEmo’s work is distributed among cities such as Madrid, London, New York, Paris, Mexico City, Havana… it includes permanent or temporary works. Or even both, like his version of Michelangelo’s David, which caused a stir when it was temporarily installed in New York and is now permanently located at the University of Miami. Other of his works, with a characteristic red nose, prevailing those in the shape of a human skull, have become the hallmark of many of his most emblematic works. Red, that exclusive color of the (RED) edition of the entire Fiat range for the fight against global health emergencies, another point of union between the artist and the Brand.
dEmo has also designed awards for prestigious awards, such as Antonio Banderas’ ‘Tegesta’, Madrid’s LGTBIQ+ Pride awards, the Miami Fashion Week film competition or the Inocente awards, which have been given to Pope Francis, among others. But the inspiration of dEmo does not stop there. He has made forays into abstract painting, fashion design, wine bottles, decorative elements… Very diverse works with his personal touch and made in all kinds of materials: from bronze to marble, through resin, polyester or fiberglass.
