Three or more hours of television a day doubles the risk of premature death

The pernicious effects of leading a sedentary lifestyle, already well known, go through a decrease in fertility, an increase in obesity and also a significant reduction in life expectancy. In this sense, the physical activity deficit associated with watching television for three or more hours a day carries twice the risk of premature death in middle-aged people , as has been found in a latest study carried out by the University of Navarre. One more fact to take into account in order to seek the longevity of longevity.

Moderate exercise for half an hour a day, 5 days a week, or vigorous exercise for 20 minutes a day, 3 days a week, reduces mortality risk by nearly a third, according to recent research. Disregarding these habits and replacing them with leisurely leisure, largely promoted by emerging technology, causes the opposite effect, with a significant increase in said risk. The present investigation places 3 and a half hours of television viewing the time frame from which the risk of premature death doubles, regardless of the rest of the sedentary habits that we follow.

To obtain this conclusion, the scientists evaluated 13,284 healthy young people for 8 years in order to determine the association between three types of sedentary behaviors and the risk of death associated with each of them: television, computer and driving. The risk of death was twice as high for participants who exceeded this time in front of television compared to those who did not, under the same diet and lifestyle conditions. In contrast, the researchers found no association between time spent using the computer or driving and the risk of premature death.

According to the authors, the results are consistent with those of the predecessor studies, with the exception that they have shown that the adverse effect of watching television for a long time continues to be present in equal exposure to other potential risk factors for mortality.

Having a lot of fat in the blood is more dangerous than we think

Not only is it harmful at the cardiovascular level, but it could worsen metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, which affect people with obesity.

Obesity: It is not solved only with diet and exercise

One of the biggest science (and society) missteps of our time is arguably our poor understanding of obesity.
