Teatro Digital concludes its May programming with Timber !, the work of the Canadian company Cirque Alfonse, with which the season Canada Country Guest of Honor 2021 is inaugurated. This broadcast will be available from May 27 to June 3.

“Despite the challenges we faced this year, we did not give up. With the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo, Air Canada and Gran Tierra Energy, we have worked to bring to Colombian homes a bit of Canadian culture through the Digital Theater platform ”, says Marcel Lebleu, Canadian ambassador to Colombia, about this digital season.
Cirque Alfonse is a group created in 2005 by a talented group of artists from the most renowned new circus companies in the world. Timber! was created with unusual acrobatic devices directly inspired by the forest resources available on the company’s real-life family farm.

In this play, the artists perform incredible aerial stunt sequences, and the colorful staging was inspired by the exploits of early American lumberjacks, loggers, and farmers.

On the occasion of the launch of the season Canada Country Guest of Honor 2021, organized by the Teatro Mayor together with the Embassy of that country in Colombia and which has the support of Air Canada and Gran Tierra, both institutions will hold a discussion on Wednesday, 26 of May, at 6 pm
This event will be held through the Teatro Mayor’s Facebook account and will feature the participation of Christina Préfontaine, Political Counselor of the Canadian Embassy in Colombia; Antoine Carabinier, director of Cirque Alfonse; and Felipe Ortiz, Co-director of La Gata Circo, moderated by Ramiro Osorio, general director of the Teatro Mayor.
Canada has been one of the epicenters of the development of the language of the new circus in the world. There, important companies such as Cirque du Soleil, Cirque Eloize and Cirque Alfonse were born, which was founded in the town of Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez in the province of Quebec.

In January 2020, the Teatro Mayor’s Canada Country Guest of Honor Season had face-to-face performances of the Cirque Alfonse show Tabarnak , a celebration with acrobatics and live music that presented a personal vision of the profane and the sacred.

The Digital Theater programming is divided into four lines: Lo Nuestro , with presentations by the great references of Colombian music; Great shows , which highlights the large-scale productions that have passed through the Teatro Mayor’s programming; Armonía Sura , which brings together the great concerts of the world’s most important classical music orchestras, and Ventana de América , made up of shows from the Ola Ópera Latinoamérica network of theaters.
