To those wonderful mothers-in-law: thank you

It is known that the relationships between daughter-in-law and mother-in-law are not always harmonious or simple, and the title of “mother-in-law” is usually seen with negative overtones (something like what happens with the title of “stepmother”).

However, not all mothers-in-law are that horror character that many people joke with. There are also respectful and understanding mothers-in-law , who support us when we need it most and more than being an enemy, they become an ally.

Thinking of them and on the occasion of World Mother-in-Law Day, today we want to dedicate a very special letter to those wonderful mothers-in-law.

My personal experience

I am not a mother-in-law, and I have many years to go before (perhaps) one day I will be. But I have been a daughter-in-law, and due to my peculiar personal experience as a divorced mother who later rebuilt her life with a new partner, I have had the opportunity to have not one, but two mothers-in-law at different stages of my life as a mother. This situation has made me live two very different experiences (and it is not my intention to compare them or say that one is better than the other).

Although I consider myself a realistic person, I also like to see the positive side of things, and that is why I believe that this double experience has helped me to be more understanding and to appreciate and appreciate the good things.

Because not all mothers-in-law are worthy of horror stories, on behalf of grateful daughters-in-law I do this little recognition to those wonderful mothers-in-law, who have become loving grandmothers.

To those wonderful mothers-in-law

We know that in many cases, there are times when some people wish they did not have a mother-in-law, but in ours it is not. If there is something we have to say, it is: thank you.

In the first place, because they welcomed us into their family when we began to be part of it, welcoming us with affection and rejecting those prejudices that are often repeated about the friction between daughters-in-law and mothers-in-law. Some of you even became a second mother to many of us.

Second, we want to thank you for raising our partners with so much love and patience , because today they are responsible, respectful human beings and dedicated and loving parents, which says a lot about the role you played in their upbringing and their lives. .

This has given us partners who are fully involved in parenting and are supportive couples, who know that the key to raising children is teamwork.

We also want to thank them for the important role they play in the lives of our children: their grandchildren. Nothing makes us happier than knowing that they have so many people who love them (and grandmothers keep a very special place).

From the moment we shared the news of the pregnancy, they were filled with enthusiasm for the new stage that would begin. And when our children finally arrived, they listened to us and respected our decisions , even though we might have different opinions. Because even though they gave us advice, they understood that the final decision was ours.

Bottom line: for your dedication, love and dedication, thank you for being amazing people, loving grandmothers, and wonderful mothers-in-law .

We live surrounded by technology and it is inevitable that this will be incorporated as one more tool in parenting. In addition to apps that help with things ranging from designing your baby's room to managing the calendar of children with separated parents, devices such as tablets, mobile phones or smart speakers are here to stay. Proof of this is the growing use of Alexa as a timer that children obey without question (or at least without protesting as much as their mother).
